Billy’s Story

At the age of 5, Billy was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a terminal degenerative muscular disease. Billy understands DMD enough to know that his muscles are sick, but remains as happy as ever. It is with the utmost grace and class that Billy continues to accept his limitations and not let them define him.

“I want Billy to have the very best care he can get in treating Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I decided we would seek that care that only Nationwide Children’s could give Billy, no matter how far we had to travel. The physicians are continuously involved in research to find a cure. Their work is promising and it gives us all hope,” William, Billy’s Dad.

Billy, often called “Little Billy” by his friends and family, enjoys the outdoors and is a member of Trail Life USA, a Christian outdoor adventure, character and leadership program for boys. His current rank is Fox and he recently earned his first patch. He loves Star Wars, playing with his two sisters and collecting Hot Wheels cars. Each day his body slowly continues to weaken, but he maintains a positive attitude and keeps smiling. Your generous donations to Nationwide Children’s Hospital help us get that much closer to finding a lifesaving cure for kids like Billy, and kids everywhere.
