CJ’s Story

When he was born, CJ was completely healthy and he had no signs of pyloric stenosis. When he was about 2 weeks old, he started to vomit after meals and was losing weight. We took CJ to the doctors and they thought he had acid reflux and gave him medicine. His vomiting continued to worse, so we decided to go to Children’s ER and the wonderful staff found out what was wrong. He was diagnosed with pyloric stenosis, a condition where your pyloric valve shuts and closes completely and doesn’t allow food to be digested so it makes kids vomit. CJ was admitted right away and had surgery the next day. After he recovered, we thought we were in the clear but we were not. CJ developed 3 bacterial infections and a second surgery was needed. CJ was treated and discharged him with an IV in his arm. I had to learn how to give IV medicine and take care of him at home. Now fast forward to 3 1/2 years later, he is a happy and bouncing boy.
