Danica’s Story

We came to Nationwide to have long term success for our daughter and it was definitely worth the 1,700 miles traveled. Dr Levitt and the the entire Colorectal team took amazing care of Danica and gave us hope for the future.

Danica began having bowel movement problems right away, we noticed within the first week of life she struggled to produce stool, as our second child we knew one thing was clear. Babies, eat, sleep and poop…right? We tried everything to help her, you name it we tried it and nothing worked long term. We met Dr. Levitt in 2012 at another hospital and we loved his determination. In 2016, we decided to contact him again and see if things had progressed in the colorectal department. Danica had started school and was ready for bowel control. Back in 2012, Dr Levitt’s team was using the Malone procedure for kids with idiopathic constipation, but the kids were much older than Danica at the time they ranged from 8-10 years old. As sad as it sounds we honestly couldn’t wait for Danica to be old enough to have a Malone, a parent shouldn’t wish a child grow faster than they already do but we honestly knew a Malone would help her.

In 2016, we reached out to Dr. Levitt after discovering he had moved to Nationwide Children’s, we put a plan together and in July of 2016 Danica had a bowel resection and a malone! She is doing tremendously better and for the first time in her life she is taking zero laxatives!
Thank you Nationwide for seeing Dr. Levitt’s vision and providing his team the tools to help restore bowel functions to colorectal kids!
