Miracle triplets who were born too soon

It took us 5 long years to get pregnant. When we found out we were having triplets we were ecstatic! My pregnancy had been going great until 24 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital on strict bed rest for shorten cervix and possible preterm labor. My water broke at 27 wks 5 days and we delivered at 28 wks exactly.

Julie weighed 2 lbs 4 oz, Lauren weighed 2 lbs 4.9 oz and Jared weighed 2 lbs 10.9 oz and all were 14.75 inches long. They were intubated for about 24 hours and then placed on Sipap. After several days they went to the cpap. The girls came off of the cpap by 31 weeks to room air and Jared was able to go to high flow cannula. Jared finally came off of the cannula at 34 weeks.

The babies first time for a bottle was at 33 weeks and it was Thanksgiving! We were able to there for their first bottle and then later that day able to give them their bottle!

We had the typical ups and downs in the NICU. Keeping temp up so we were in and out of the isolates, Jared coming off oxygen, brady’s, ROP and bottle feeding.

One day in December I received a call from the NICU saying that they thought Julie possible had NEC and they were stopping all feeds and putting her back in the isolate with humidity and the tiny gold heart. We were back to the beginning again. We watched her code in front of us because she was so sick. It turned out she was severely constipated because she pooped 2 oz the next morning and was better. We started to re introduce everything back to her slowly.

Jared had a grade 2 brain bleed. It did resolve on its own.

Our kids came home at 55 days, 61 days and 71 days from the NICU.

Today we still see several specialists: GI, Neonatology, dermatology, pulmonary, allergy and cardiology.

Our triplets are now 3 years old and the only developmental delay that we have is with Julie and her speech. She has been in speech therapy now for 18 months and starting to make so much progress.

Our kids are happy, health, active 3 year olds who have started preschool. I don’t know what life would be like without them!
