Monroe: Small But Mighty

20 weeks into the pregnancy we knew something was different. Monroe’s body was growing normally except for her head. She was born full term, Easter Sunday of 2015, but her head size was about 6 weeks behind. She seemed perfect to us and the doctors let us leave after 2 days…like normal. We immediately started to see specialists. Her small size causes additional problems. At 6 months old she had throat surgery for larynogomalacia. She’s been in OT and PT since she was 4 months old.

Summer of 2016 is when we moved to Columbus from Detroit. The care and advice we get through Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been absolutely spectacular. Monroe had her 2nd surgery on her head before the age of 2 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She was cared for by not only neurosurgery but also plastic surgery to remove a dermoid mass. We are at the hospital at least once a week regularly and everybody is always so friendly and helpful. Monroe will grow up with learning disabilities and physical delays, but we do know that being here in Columbus that she is in good hands.
