Down Right Perfect

When Norah was 1 day old she was diagnosed with Down Syndrome- Robertsonian Translocation, to be specific. We were so overwhelmed with the news as we had no idea until this day. Following her diagnosis, our pediatrician recommended an ECHO and EKG to determine if Norah had any heart issues. When Norah was 2 1/2 weeks old, we took her to Nationwide Children’s Hospital to have the ECHO and EKG completed. We were beyond worried and had prayed and prayed that her heart was great. When our cardiologist came in, she gave us news that we never even imagined we could receive. Norah’s heart was great (thank goodness) however she had a cardiac teratoma on her heart and due to the teratoma, there was fluid collecting around her heart. She had to be admitted that day.

Norah had a drain put it to drain the fluid until she could have heart surgery the next week. When Norah was 3 weeks old she ended up having open heart surgery to remove her teratoma. We soon found out that thankfully, the tumor was NOT cancerous. Norah is so strong and such a fighter that she was released to go home 2 days later. This beautiful little girl is absolutely Down Right Perfect!
