Roger Michael’s Story

When Mikey was 17 months old, he was diagnosed with epilepsy. That day he began his journey of many therapies and treatments for his condition and developmental delays at The Division of Child Neurology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a leading national program with specialists that are experts in treating a broad range of pediatric neurological disorders.

Mikey took his first steps at two years old, and his parents were incredibly proud of him and how hard he’d worked to get to that point. A year later, Mikey had his first seizure since his diagnosis. Then, when he was five, Mikey experienced a seizure that nearly ended his life. But due to his fighting spirit and the care he received at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, 8-year-old Mikey is doing great today. He receives follow-up treatment from Nationwide Children’s every 3-6 months.

Despite his diagnosis, Mikey continues to learn, grow and overcome many things. He is an energetic boy who loves playing basketball in the local league. And, this past June, Mikey learned to ride his bike completely training-wheel free – something his parents thought they’d never see him do.
